Why does DMGS need an Endowment Fund? DMGS suffered a temporary setback as a result of the Nigerian civil war (1967 to 1970) which led to the destruction of many buildings at the school. As the School’s Administration and the Old Boys struggled to rebuild and restore the physical facilities, the State Government take-over of schools led to a delay in restoring the school to its pre-war condition.

Following the recent return of DMGS to the Mission (the Anglican Church), the DMGS School Management Board and the DMGS Old Boys Association have been working diligently to bring about a marked improvement and huge progress towards fully returning DMGS to its pre-war glory. But this work has not come without some difficulty and drain on the resources of the school and its Old Boys.

The mission of Dengramites and friends of Dengramites is to establish a permanent endowment for the improvement and maintenance of educational facilities at DMGS. The roofs need changing, the science laboratories need upgrading, the library and the way students access information and educational materials on the web need to be re-evaluated and upgraded. From bringing top instructors on board, to introducing long distance learning and education, and from student exchange programs to student scholarships, the needs at DMGS are many and endless. Even the ICT Center which was commissioned in 2015 will probably need to be upgraded in the next five years. Unless an innovative program is put in place to address these future recurring needs, DMGS cannot be assured of staying abreast of competition. Simply stated, DMGS needs an endowment fund, and DMGS alumni must not shy away from this responsibility. Every alumnus is responsible for helping to provide a solid financial foundation for its alma mater. By personally contributing to DEF, an alumnus clearly recognizes this responsibility and demonstrates his understanding of it.
